How to Crochet the Cross-Over Long Double Crochet Stitch
This beautiful crochet stitch creates a great texture on both sides of the crochet fabric. It uses basic crochet stitches; chain stitches (ch), single crochet stitches (sc), half double crochet stitches (hdc), slip stitches (sl st) and double crochet stitches (dc).
The crossover long double crochet stitch is worked into the skipped stitches from a previous row or round. The long double crochet stitch is just a variation of a regular double crochet stitch. The only difference is the longer height to which you draw your loop to create the stitch.
This crochet stitch pattern can be worked in multiple colors, in rounds, or in rows. You can create beautiful crocheted projects using this special stitch.
Along with her video tutorial, Rhelena has also included a photo tutorial with written instructions in her post.
You can practise this special stitch with some of her free crochet patterns:
Make a Cross-Over LDC Textured Dishcloth with Aran / Medium Weight Yarn and a 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook. The finished dishcloth measures 6.75 inches X 6.75 inches. Get the free pattern here.
Make a Cross-Over Long DC Baby Blanket or Throw Blanket with DK Weight Yarn and a 4 mm (G) crochet hook. When complete the blanket measures 27 inches X 27 inches in size. By using a variegated yarn you won’t have to change colors and the project will work up very quickly. Get the free pattern here.
Make a beautiful Textured Crochet Shawl using the crossover long double crochet (ldc) stitch. Crochet this project with Worsted Weight Yarn [4] and a 5 mm crochet hook (H). Rhelena used 6 skeins (1230 yds/1125 meters) of Patons Canadiana Acrylic yarn for her project. Get the free pattern here.
Other variations on the ldc stitch can be found in these free patterns:
