Crochet Wind Spinners

Along with our basic crochet wind spinner designs, you will also find a sunflower wind spinner, Halloween wind spinners, snowmen wind spinners and a rainbow wind spinner. One of the wind spinner patterns includes a pretty lacy edge you can add to your finished project.

A couple quick tips for making your Wind Spinner:

  • Add weight to the bottom – this is essential to keep the spinner vertical when it catches the wind.
  • Use a very fine and durable thread, or even fishing line to tie the wind spinner to your chosen spot. The fine thread (or fishing line) will allow the spinner to spin more freely than yarn.

But how do I add weight to the base of my Wind Spinner?

Some items you can add to the base of your wind spinner for a bit of extra weight are tassels, beads or buttons! Remember this weight is to keep the wind spinner vertical, not to stretch the project straight so you only need to add a bit.

What yarn should I use?

You can make your wind spinner with most any yarn or fiber too! Just be sure to choose a hook size a bit smaller than that recommended on the label to get a firm finished project. I personally prefer using cotton yarns because I find the acrylic yarns stretch a bit more than I want them too for this type of project. Each project below includes a suggested yarn and hook size.
