This Easy Split Tote is beautiful and you can learn how to crochet it by following along with this video prepared by Marly Bird. The crochet tote bag pattern is available as a free PDF download from Yarnspirations.

How to Crochet A Tote Bag
For the project you will need Medium Weight Cotton Yarn [4] in 2 colors, and a 4 mm (G) and a 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook. The pattern is very easy to follow and uses the split single crochet stitch, which is basically a single crochet stitch that is worked between the 2 legs of the stitch, instead of under the top loops of the stitch.
The tote bag is crocheted in 3 pieces, the bag and 2 separate straps. The bag is worked in continuous rounds, starting at the base and continuing upwards to the top of the bag. The 2 straps are sewn on afterward.
When complete the tote bag measures approximately 15 inches wide X 15 inches tall, not including the straps.
You can see my project here (I made this bag a few years ago and love it!).
This is an easy crochet project to make and suitable for beginners.
