Traditional Granny Square Pattern and Tutorial
This crochet granny square pattern teaches you how to make a granny square, without finishing off at the end of every round. It works great for projects in a single color and for variegated and tonal yarns.
If you do want to have a new color for every round, simple finish off after you slip stitch to join. Then begin your next round in any corner ch3sp by joining your new color with a slip stitch (sl st) and then chaining 3 to begin.
You can make your granny square as small or as large as you like. If you are making a dishcloth, you might want to add the simple edging I included in the post to give it a more finished look.
Instructions to add a simple edging are also provided so you can make the granny square into a dishcloth. Continue with the pattern to make any size project, including an afghan. Step-by-step photos and written instructions are provided.
