How to Crochet the Iris Stitch

  • Stitch Multiple (for a foundation chain): 4 chs + 3 chs
  • Stitch Multiple: 4 sts + 1 st

Practice example:

Abbreviations
US Terminology used

  • ch – chain
  • ch1sp – chain 1 space
  • dc – double crochet
  • R – row
  • sk – skip
  • st/sts – stitch/stitches
  • * to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain of multiple instructions.
  • [] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches
  • () – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Row 1: Ch 23, sk the first 4 chs (counts as 1 dc and one sk ch), (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the next ch. *Sk 3 chs, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 2 chs. Sk 1 ch and work 1 dc in the last ch. Turn. [22 dc, 5 ch1sp]

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), sk the next 2 dc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the next ch1sp. *Sk the next 4 dc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the next ch1sp**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 3 dc. Sk the next 2 dc, work 1 dc in the last dc. Turn. [22 dc, 5 ch1sp]

Repeat Row 2.
